Born to Die

John 18:
37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.

38 Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.

39 But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover: will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews?

40 Then cried they all again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.

Born to die...to bear witness of the truth...to those who will hear.

Are you truly a truth seeker? Or, as the Jews, caught up in your tradition? Crucifying truth (Jesus) by supposedly honoring His birth?

Or as Pilate, do you 'gloss' over "what is truth" because it feels good, doesn't cause waves, let's you fit in?

If christ-mass is really of God why is the world so eager to embrace and promote it? How different, and Biblically relevant are you?

How fervently do we stand for truth? Who do we resemble more?

Peter denying, wanting to NOT stand out?

Pilate, supposed to judge right, but compromising to keep 'peace'?

Crowds/world who want to 'feel good'?

Barabbas, pardoned, as a robber (stealing truth)?

Christ, willing to give all, integrity, truthful, honest. Sacrificial for truth.

So who do you look most like?

Jealousies

John 3:27 John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.

This verse, in context, is about Jesus and John and how Jesus is 'drawing' people.

I found it a good reflection on being content with where you are and what you have.

It doesn't matter who you are or where you are, whatever we have is because it's given (or allowed) by heaven.

What are you striving, working, hoping for or about? Praying for His will, guidance, wisdom in all?

Are you dissatisfied, discontented, depressed when you look at others (get your eyes off the wind Peter)?

I need to remember to keep my eyes on Jesus, and pray for wisdom, guidance, and discernment. To not be dismayed or swayed by other people, situations or circumstances.

Stay the course, run the race with endurance, don't be entangled with the 'things' of this world.

Scripture

Acts 18:28 For he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publickly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ.

What scripture was he using?

G1124 - From G1125; a document, that is, holy Writ (or its contents or a statement in it): - scripture.  Used 51 times in 51 verses, singular and plural.
  • G1125 - A primary verb; to “grave”, especially to write; figuratively to describe: - describe, write (-ing, -ten).
Scriptures - plural - used 21 times in 21 verses, all in the New Testament.

All of which use G1124, except:

2Ti 3:15  And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures (G1121), which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

G1121 - From G1125; a writing, that is, a letter, note, epistle, book, etc.; plural learning: - bill, learning, letter, scripture, writing, written.

Christ Jesus uses the scripture (Old Testament) to validate Himself.

Joh 5:39  Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

Barnes Commentary on Acts 18:28:
Showing by the scriptures - Proving from the Old Testament. Showing that Jesus of Nazareth corresponded with the account of the Messiah given by the prophets.

Barnes on John 5:39:
The scriptures - The writings or books of the Old Testament, for those were all the books of revelation that they then possessed.

On the phrase 'search the scriptures':
Search the scriptures - The word translated “search” here means to “search diligently” or “search anxiously.” It was applied to miners, who search for precious metals - who look anxiously for the “bed” of the ore with an intensity or anxiety proportionate to “their sense” of the value of the metal.

How 'anxiously' do I search the Word of God, Old, New or both?  How hungry am I to be 'fed' by His Word.  To immerse myself in His Word?  To be conformed to His image?

Oh Lord, help me to love you, to desire you in all areas of my life, to feast on Your Word daily, to meditate on it.  O' Father cause me to fall deeper in love with You daily, desiring not to be conformed to this world, but transformed by the renewing of my mind with Your manna.

Help me to be a bold witness, to speak Your word, to be able to give an answer for the hope which is within me, saturate me with Your word, fill me fresh daily with Your presence, create in me a desire for You and the things of heaven.

Untouchables

Acts 11:18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

Pondering upon those who we may deem as unworthy to hear the gospel.

Is there anyone in your family, friends, acquaintances, coworkers, service personnel (clerks, sales people, receptionist, etc.) which you're reluctant to present the gospel?

To reach out a 'hand' and 'touch'?

Afraid of rejection?

Being mocked?

Criticized?

Scorned?

Laughed and derided?

Scatter seed everywhere, God prepares the ground and gives growth (or not).

We're not responsible for others attitudes and/or reception, only our own obedience and service to the Lord.

Footstool

Acts 7:49 Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool: what house will ye build me? saith the Lord: or what is the place of my rest?

Have you considered how lowly we humans are? The place we dwell, live, work, have family and friends...is the footstool of God.

We think we're so lofty, achieving 'great' things, have we lost the sense of His greatness? Power? Control?

Do we remember we are but dust? Dust He used by His omniscient presence to craft into a being?

How humble are we to give Him all the glory and honor He deserves?

December 2015

Well, here for the final month of the roman year is the last month's reading.

I haven't yet begun to explore reading options for next year and would love to hear from others on other options.

May the Lord bless each of His children when we diligently seek to know Him better through His Word.  May we 'ingest' it with a hunger that surpasses any other.

Thanksgiving

Phil 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

This time of year in the United States is set apart as a day of remembrance for our pilgrim forefathers preserving, through the grace of God.

Without His provision and protection they would have died. His mercy abounded greatly in giving them hope in a rough and harsh world.

We all face trials and tribulations, some which may make us despair of life or the ability to rise and see another day.

He is able to see us through, His hand is not slack, His grace always abundant. May we continually seek Him in prayer, seeking His supply, always thankful.

Heart Burn

http://bible.com/1/luk.24.32.kjv And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?

Pondering upon their burning hearts, questioning if my heart does the same when I partake of reading the Word.

Do I ask Him to open my understanding?

Desire to be filled afresh?

Oh that my heart would burn passionately for Him and His Word. Oh, Father stir up Thy gift within me. Create a passionate longing and desire for Thee.

Community with me and open my understanding of You and Your Word.

Lost and Found

http://bible.com/1/luk.15.32.kjv It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.

This is representative of every one whom God has chosen...do we remember the 'feeling' of being welcomed into God's family?

This also reverberates in physical families. Many have lost sons (and daughters), those who've gone astray, rebelled against parents (first against God). It'd hard to hear, or experience, the loss of a family member.

One always hopes, counting God as generous, thinking as long as the person is still alive, there is a chance God will bring them to repentence.

The father had delight in seeing his 'born again' son, the son demonstrated repentence in humbling himself to go home as a servant.

Willing to be not just subjugated as a son, but a lowly servant.  No shoes, no coat, no ring (mark). Actually saying the words out loud which he'd internally grasped.

Have you a prodigal for whom you're praying? Does it seem hopeless? Do you waiver in your hope? 'God, it's been xx days, weeks, months, years. Will they ever return?'

Or if they return will they truly be repentent? Are they boomerang people? Those who hit bottom, bounce up for a bit, grab a hand and then go back to their selfish life styles?

Depleting their support network of enablers as they spiral down to a final crash landing?

Only God knows whose been chosen and redeemed. I'm not saying no help for those who return...NOT AT ALL.

Helping a prodigal (or anyone for that matter) is based upon prayer, counsel, and His wisdom in setting appropriate and healthy boundaries.

Anyone whose truly repentent will desire to work within the parameters, want to 'prove' your trust and help, demonstrating a true conversion of spirit, soul and body.

May the Lord guide us as we pray for the lost, helping as He guides and provides.

Transparency

http://bible.com/1/luk.12.3.kjv Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.

Nothing hidden...what do I have in life which I 'think' no one else knows? Or secrets?

When we stand before Christ and our lives are reviewed, what will be seen/revealed?

Will we cry at all the wasted time and opportunities? Be ashamed how we didn't stand boldly for our Lord and faith?

Cringe at how similar to the world we resembled? Thinking we were bright shining lights, when in reality we were just 'muffled' lamps along the shore of life?

I want to be a lighthouse. Not for the kudos of people, not to stand before Christ and be prideful. I want the passion, urgency, fervent REPENT to lost and dying souls.

God help me to be a better steward of your time and resources and to give you glory and all that I say do and think.

Labourer

http://bible.com/1/luk.10.2.kjv Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.

When I was first saved I was passionate about telling people about Jesus. I remember someone telling me that as I went along my walk I would not be as vehement. Sadly, they were right.

When my children were little, we used to pass out cards with scripture verses or leave them in places for people to find.

I want that same passion, that same fervency. The sense of urgency which accompanied my conversion.

At this juncture of my walk I don't feel like I'm a worthy laborer. How about you?

Kindness

Luke 6:35 - But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.

God is kind to the unthankful and the evil.

Roll that around on your mental tongue, shift it from side to side, 'tasting' with all the 'different' flavors...

Is it bitter? Salty? Sour? Sweet? Umami?

Say what? :-)

A savory taste...

Kind - G5543 - From G5530; employed, that is, (by implication) useful (in manner or morals).
  • G5530 - Middle voice of a primary verb (perhaps rather from G5495, to handle); to furnish what is needed; (give an oracle, “graze” [touch slightly], light upon, etc.), that is, (by implication) to employ or (by extension) to act towards one in a given manner.
Used 7 times -

Mat 11:30  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Rom 2:4  Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

Eph 4:32  And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

Unthankful - G884 - From G1 (as a negative particle) and a presumed derivative of G5483; thankless, that is, ungrateful.
  • G1 - Of Hebrew origin; the first letter of the alphabet: figuratively only (from its use as a numeral) the first. Often used (usually “an”, before a vowel) also in composition (as a contraction from G427) in the sense of privation; so in many words beginning with this letter; occasionally in the sense of union (as a contraction of G260): - Alpha.
  • G5483 - Middle voice from G5485; to grant as a favor, that is, gratuitously, in kindness, pardon or rescue.
Used twice...once in the verse above and:

2Ti 3:2  For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

Pondering on how extremely unthankful I have and can be...I tend to be very self absorbed...selfish...always expecting more, thinking I 'deserve' better.  How rotten a thought, feeling and position!

After all God has done for me...just saving me should be sufficient...yet once I have 'A', I want 'B' and so on...

This doesn't mitigate praying and seeking the Lord...but WHY am I asking?  For myself?  For His glory?

Evil - G4190 - From a derivative of G4192; hurtful, that is, evil (properly in effect or influence, and thus differing from G2556, which refers rather to essential character, as well as from G4550, which indicates degeneracy from original virtue); figuratively calamitous; also (passively) ill, that is, diseased; but especially (morally) culpable, that is, derelict, vicious, facinorous; neuter (singular) mischief, malice, or (plural) guilt; masculine (singular) the devil, or (plural) sinners.
  • G4192 - From the base of G3993; toil, that is, (by implication) anguish.
    • G3993 - From a primary “peno” (to toil for daily subsistence); starving, that is, indigent: - poor.
Used 76 times in 71 verses...

Have you ever looked at people around you and while 'well fed' seen them as the starving masses they truly are?  Those people we walk by in the stores, drive past on the streets, neighbors we really don't know...and don't share real 'food'?

Those who God, even though they are unthankful and evil, is kind...useful.

Watch

Watchful. ....how much am I? You?

http://bible.com/1/mrk.13.34-37.kjv For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch. Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning: Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping. And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.

Are we carried about with the daily cares, concerns, cravings?

How seriously do we take this admonition?

How oft are we ensnared by the things of this world? Lord, help us to be good stewards not caught up in our fleshly desires, desiring and seeking you with all of our spirit soul and body.

Family - True Relations

http://bible.com/1/mrk.3.33-35.kjv And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brethren? And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.

How oft do we become ensnared by physical blood connections versus spiritual blood, which is the true bond of family.

Just as other aspects of physical were/are a portrayal of spiritual events/realities so too is the blood bond.

So who do you love more? Your physical or spiritual family?

Great blessings if they happen to be both!

Veil Rent in Two

Chapter 27

http://bible.com/1/mat.27.51.kjv And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;

In chapter 28 it is commonly reported about the guards being paid off to lie about the disciples stealing Jesus body while they slept...I wonder how or if any historical data exists about the veil ripping?

This wasn't some worn, aged thin material. Thus was thick, heavy, long material which hid the mercy seat.

Curious if anyone knows or has studied if the Jews allowed this information to be included anywhere. If the veil ripping is known in their history (whether it's common knowledge or just data recorded) excellent stepping stone for witnessing.

Reverence the Heir

http://bible.com/1/mat.21.41.kjv They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out his vineyard unto other husbandmen, which shall render him the fruits in their seasons.

Chilling thought as I read through this passage...just as the Jews didn't recognize the son of God, nor reverence Him, how do we with our traditions give lip service and/or appearance of 'worshiping' but in truth are nothing more than dead works?

How much of our daily actions, thoughts and words are considered to be fruitful in His view?

Sitting Down

http://bible.com/1/mat.8.11.kjv And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.

Have you considered this? Who do we sit down with?

Who do we 'break bread' with? Especially those who call themselves Christians?

Abraham was called the friend of God, yet he wasn't perfect, nor were Isaac or Jacob.

They were men God refined and counts worthy enough to be a 'goal' of sitting down in their company.

How discerning and discreet are we on this side of glory? Do we spend time (sit down) with those who are seeking to be refined into His image?

My grandma used to say "Birds of a feather flock together."

Lord help us to be discerning in our choice of company. Help us to cultivate godly relationships, help us to glorify You with those we 'sit down'.

Discipline

http://bible.com/1/1co.5.11.kjv But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.

So how do you do this, if such strong discipline is done at all?

Fornication - how do you know if someone is engaging?

Fornication seems a pretty straight forward sin, but is it?

What about covetousness? Idolatry? Don't we all battle (or should) idols? What in our lives are we putting before God and His Word?

Railers? What, or who, fits this description?

Drunkards and extortioner - we'd know how to spot those too, right?

Not to eat with...no breaking of bread, hanging out for a casual meal. No 'family' get togethers?

This isn't addressing the unsaved, rather someone who calls themselves a believer. This is harsh judgment.

Do we have the strength to stand to God's command? Or do we, in 'Christian' 'love' and 'grace' look the other way and not 'judge'?

Because we're all sinners right? We all fall short. We all have 3 fingers pointing back at ourselves.

How bold are we to challenge someone (including ourselves) who says they are a Christian yet fall, or follow those behaviors above?

"I'm sorry." WAIT, why are we sorry? Is God sorry?

"I would enjoy having a meal with you (or hanging out together); however...."

Can you say it (if you know it to be true and the person is unrepentant)? Can I?

How do you work it out if the person or people live in your home? Or work with you?

Preach The Gospel

1 Corinthians 1.17-18

"For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel:..."

Interesting thought, baptism is an outward declaration of the inward change, but not the 'goal'.

"...not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God."

Chosen people 'hear'. Another interesting thought, saved. Appears to be past tense. We're already 'saved' (chosen) when we hear the gospel.

Yet we're to liberally scatter 'seed' and not be concerned with ground conditions.

Justice

Here's another, 'wait, let me reread it again' moment.

http://bible.com/1/2th.1.6.kjv Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you;

We will suffer on this side of glory. It's not an option.

We may 'coast' along for periods of time - that non existent plateau of 'ahh' everything is right.

Which is really an illusion, since it's only based upon ourselves (it's ALL about me) and our perceptions.

Whereas God sees everyone and every situation and there will never be the perfect 'ahh' moment (actually eternity) until He calls us all home.

Somewhere there is always persecution, death, distress, disease, etc. But the really glorious thought, as expressed in the passage?

God RIGHTEOUSLY recompenses those that trouble us, physical and spiritual 'enemies' and 'frenemies' (you know those people who act as if they are your friend, but eventually show themselves NOT to be).

So saints when we suffer (not because we're being corrected) but because we're showing HIM, God is keeping record. He doesn't always judge in the time frame which we'd like.

And no we can't call lightening down from heaven when someone is being a pain. :-)

We can, and should, be praying, not for vengeance on them, rather that God's grace would open their blind eyes and deaf ears and we would stand boldly for truth and be blameless witnesses for Him.

TRUSTING Him to work out either salvation in them, sanctification in us, and an eventual 'settling of the books' at the end.

So whose annoying you? Not treating you well? 'Sandpapering'? Outright persecuting you? Mocking Your God? Gossiping (frenemies)? or are you in a trial (always allowed by God) to refine you?

Pray dear saint, pray more. Prayer doesn't change God, it changes us.

Ungodly Persecute Righteous

I had to read the verse 3 times to absorb the word picture.

Just as Ishmael persecuted Issac, so the ungodly do to the children of promise.

http://bible.com/1/gal.4.29.kjv But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now.

Jesus told us we'd be persecuted, just as He was...but dear American saint, how persecuted are we?

Please don't tell me you're mocked for wanting to put Christ into 'christ-mass' - which is no where in Scripture.

Rather are you persecuted or mocked by others, including 'Christians' because you don't?

Do you have morals or standards for what you watch, listen, read and get flack?

Irritating yes, as north American peoples, but no where near the persecution suffered by saints in other countries.

We don't lose our homes, jobs, families, get stoned, burned, banished.

Yet how frequently do we pray and intercede? Weep because they weep? Feel their anguish?

I confess I fall short, encased as I am in my 'ivory castle'. I am a selfish, self centered person, consumed with my own 'problems', pleasures, wants and desires.

God forgive me.

Who Is His People?

Who is there among you of all his people? 2 Chronicles 36:23

Thus endeth the readings from the Old Testament.

How distinct are we as Christians? What 'odor' do we project to our family, friends, acquaintances, coworkers, people we pass through in life?

How brightly is our 'light' shining in this dark world?

"This little light of mine, I'm going to let it shine..."

Begins the song...but the light can only shine if there is 'oil' in our vessels. Our oil isn't based upon us, or a one time filling.

We've got to be renewed daily, freshing ourselves with His word. 'Washing' allowing His Word to cleanse, correct, and encourage us.

Lord, I am such a tarnished, slovenly vessel, not worthy to be called by your name, forgive me for my rebellion against You. For choosing distractions and pleasures of this world over You and Your Word. Cleanse me Father, wash me fresh, fill me full with Your Spirit.

Help me Lord to be a savour of life, an obedient vessel pouring out Your words, life and encouragement. Help me Lord not to be deceived by the enemy.

Cause me to be discerning of the sleight of hand used by those who may claim to be Christians, but in reality are not walking in the full counsel of the Word.

Cleanse us Your people, help us to be prepared for the daily battle with our flesh and the enemy. Strengthen Your people O Lord and cause us to 'see' the battle as You.

"Who is there among you of all his people?"

Right vs Perfect

http://bible.com/1/2ch.25.2.kjv And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord , but not with a perfect heart.

Right...does this mean a checklist mentality?

God wants me to do this, this and this, I don't really 'want' to but will so I can check it off.

Can we even have a perfect heart? If God has chosen us, changed our stony heart and given us a new heart with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit (can we say MAJOR software updates? :) ) is our heart then perfect?

How often am I falling into the same scenario? Dotting 'i's' and crossing 't's' yet doing it only for the outward demonstration?

Sitting on the outside, standing on the inside? Ouch.

When 'no one' is 'looking' how much do I conform to the image of Christ?

How about you? What are we 'doing' in our daily walks - and not just 'Christian' walk because there is no on/off - which isn't pleasing to Him? But we 'get by'?

Oh Lord we are but dust, help us to set aside the things of the world, our 'pretendings' to be 'right' or 'holy'.

Cleanse us Your people, cause us to desire to be perfect as You are perfect. Help us to walk our talk and not be found wanting in Your sight.

OcToBeR 2015

Well...I said to myself many days ago, "You need to get October posted."  Each day, "I need to get that done." And today, "Yeah, I SHOULD have gotten that done."  Cause I had to guess which chapters I needed to read TODAY.  :-)

I was going to add a link for my source, but it doesn't seem to be working at this precise moment.

Helping The Ungodly

http://bible.com/1/2ch.19.2.kjv And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to king Jehoshaphat, Shouldest thou help the ungodly, and love them that hate the Lord ? therefore is wrath upon thee from before the Lord.

How often do we mingle or 'play' with either the ungodly or something they've produced?

Do we watch movies or shows, read or listen to books or music which is not truly edifying?

Do we truly see the time we have here as His? Do we vet our activities as if Christ Jesus is really with us, seeing and hearing what we are? How oft do we dismiss His name being taken in vain?

Or by silence or continuing to watch or listen approve ungodly behavior?

How are we really redeeming the time.

How are we coupling ourselves with 'brethren' who really aren't? Many call themselves Christians, but hold to either outright ungodly positions, or worse are far more subtle in their deception. Perhaps they are unaware, dupped by the deceiver. Lazy not thinking and or caring I'd their is dross (leaven) as long as the 'message' goes out.

How are we accepting, helping, encouraging ungodly behavior either by our silence, or not wanting to stand out and possibly be ostracized?

What will be the results if we don't? Will we hear the same message as Jehoshaphat?

All Who Could Hear

http://bible.com/1/neh.8.2.kjv And Ezra the priest brought the law before the congregation both of men and women, and all that could hear with understanding, upon the first day of the seventh month.

...with understanding.

So no deaf people, at least physically deaf. In less they had a way to translate.

It definitely included men and women, so who is the 'all who could hear with understanding' group?

Typically in ancient cultures you were considered a 'man' or 'woman' at a younger age. No teen or tween designations. :-)

You were either an adult or child. So, though some think children have to be talked to on their level (or down to), that somehow the Spirit of God is lacking in His efficiency in allowing a child to grasp what is related by an adult.

I'm somewhat amazed by the fervent confirmation of some of the supreme ability of God, yet when it comes to enlightening the minds (or spirits) of children He's somehow inefficient?

As if speaking to them as you would an adult, or allowing them to hear the word of God is beyond His ability to enlighten?

I'm not saying children (or adults) don't need clarity, or won't have questions, but is it really necessary to 'dummy' down conversations, God's word, sermons?

Wouldn't a healthier venue be to speak and then ask them questions, or wait to see if they have questions, allowing the Spirit to move them?

Even a young child has the ability to 'hear with understanding' especially if we factor in the omnipresent, omnipotent, omniscient of God.

Would that we all have, by His grace, the ability to hear with understanding.

Understanding

http://bible.com/1/dan.9.2.kjv In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.

Daniel didn't understand all of God's plan at the onset. He was in Babylon for quite some time before the pieces 'clicked'.

I find that reassuring and encouraging. We may 'know' God's word, read, pray, etc. but until He opens our understanding we may not grasp the 'whole' picture.

May we all be diligent students of His word and constantly seeking to understand the details of His master plan.

Sore Displeased

http://bible.com/1/dan.6.14.kjv Then the king, when he heard these words, was sore displeased with himself, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him: and he laboured till the going down of the sun to deliver him.

Been there, done that...sigh.

Thinking I'm so 'smart' yet finding myself 'caught' with not having really thought through a situation or circumstance, or sought counsel.

Those moments where you want to kick yourself and have a redo, but unfortunately can't.

Take back words said. Lord help me to ask You first (and more) before I act or speak.

Multi God's

http://bible.com/1/dan.3.29.kjv Therefore I make a decree, That every people, nation, and language, which speak any thing amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed–nego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a dunghill: because there is no other God that can deliver after this sort.

Is this an earlier look at diversity? Don't talk bad about my 'god' and I won't talk bad about yours?

Distribution Directive

http://bible.com/1/est.8.10.kjv And he wrote in the king Ahasuerus' name, and sealed it with the king's ring, and sent letters by posts on horseback, and riders on mules, camels, and young dromedaries:

Horseback, mules, camels, and young dromedaries. Made me think of planes, trains and automobiles.

Prophetic

http://bible.com/1/lam.1.1.kjv How doth the city sit solitary, that was full of people! how is she become as a widow! she that was great among the nations, and princess among the provinces, how is she become tributary!

I know this verse isn't about the United States; however I think it is applicable. This nation started out so well and now has become such an abomination.

I'm amazed God hasn't trained fire and brimstone down on us. What a stench in His nostrils we must be, calling good evil and evil good.

Good help us to pray for this nation, it's people's, rulers and repentance.

Ruth's Obedience

http://bible.com/1/rut.3.5.kjv And she said unto her, All that thou sayest unto me I will do.

I've heard dramatization of the preceeding passages where Ruth questions Naomi.

Did she? We might because culturally we don't 'do' this. Or do we? Try to catch a man's eye? Not by necessarily laying at his feet.

And what was Ruth's previous culture for letting a man know you were interested?

I've been very lax in my studies...though I have been reading.  Please be encouraged to read and study, and pray for me to do likewise!

Paramours

Ezk.23.18-20.- So she discovered her whoredoms, and discovered her nakedness: then my mind was alienated from her, like as my mind was alienated from her sister. For she doted upon their paramours, whose flesh is as the flesh of asses, and whose issue is like the issue of horses.

Paramours - H6370 - pee-leh'-ghesh, pee-leh'-ghesh - Of uncertain derivation; a concubine; also (masculine) a paramour: - concubine, paramour.

Used 37 times in 35 verses - but translated only once as paramours, all the other times as concubine or concubines.

Abraham's concubine, Reumah - Genesis 22:24

Abraham's concubines - plural - Genesis 25:6

Jacob's concubine, Bilhah - who Reuben layed with - Genesis 35.22

Eliphaz's concubine, Timma - Genesis 36:12

Gideon's concubine - Judges 8:31

Judges 19-20 - Levite man takes a concubine who plays the whore.  Sacrificed and then cut into pieces.

Saul's concubine, Rizpah - 2 Samuel 3;7; 21:11

David's concubines - 2 Samuel 5:13

Ten concubines left to 'keep the house' when David fled from Absalom - sacrificed in judgment against David. - 2 Samuel 15:16

Solomon's concubines - 1 Kings 11:3

Abraham's concubine, Keturah (same as Reumah?) - 1 Chronicles 1:32

Caleb's concubine, Ephah - 1 Chronicles 2:46

Caleb's concubine, Maachah - 1 Chronicles 2:48

Interesting that some concubines are mentioned by name, given a place of honor.  Look at ALL the people referenced in the Bible, yet in comparison so few actually have their name listed.

And the same word (which I can almost picture being spat out) - paramour - is, in some instances not a negative.  Just a delineation.  I wonder if one was a concubine if the treatment was different?

Not you're female/male, brother/sister, wife/husband, etc. Oh, you, you're so and so's concubine.  Interesting too, paramour is masculine, while concubine is feminine.  So one couldn't use the word paramour to reference a female?  She would be a harlot?

John Gill Commentary:

Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ,.... The author of this epistle is the same who is elsewhere called Judas, Luk_6:16, who was one of the twelve apostles of Christ, whose name was also Lebbaeus, and whose surname was Thaddaeus, Mat_10:3, the name is the same with Judah, Gen_29:35, which comes from a word that signifies "to praise" or "confess"; and in the Rabbinical dialect is called יודא, "Juda" (e), as here. He styles himself "the servant of Jesus Christ"; See Gill on Rom_1:1; though this is a title common to all believers, yet here, and in some other places, it is peculiar to an apostle, or minister of the Gospel; and therefore is used not merely in humility, and to acknowledge obedience to Christ, but as a title of dignity and honour: and the apostle goes on to describe himself by his natural relation,

and brother of James; not the son of Zebedee, but of Alphaeus, Mat_10:2; and this he mentions partly to distinguish himself from others of that name, as Judas Iscariot, and Judas called Barsabas; and partly for the sake of honour and credit, James being a very great man, a man of great note and esteem, and who seemed to be a pillar in the church, and was called the brother of our Lord, Gal_2:9; an account of the persons to whom this epistle is inscribed next follows,

to them that are sanctified by God the Father; which is to be understood not of internal sanctification, which is usually ascribed to the Spirit of God, but of the act of eternal election, which is peculiar to God the Father; in which sense Christ is said to be sanctified by the Father, and men ordained and appointed to an office, and vessels are set apart the owner's use; Joh_10:36 Jer_1:5; the language is taken from the ceremonial law, by which persons and things were sanctified, or set apart for sacred use and service; see Exo_13:2; and so the elect of God are by God the Father sanctified and set apart in the act of election, which is expressed by this word; partly because of its separating nature, men being by it separated from the rest of the world, to the use and service of God, and for his glory, so that they are a distinct and peculiar people; and partly because such are chosen through sanctification of the Spirit, and unto holiness both in this world and that which is to come; so that the doctrine of election is no licentious doctrine; for though holiness is not the cause of it, yet is a means fixed in it, and is certain by it, and an evidence of it; the Alexandrian copy, and some others, and the Vulgate Latin and Syriac versions, read, "to them that are loved by God the Father": election is the fruit and effect of love; those that are sanctified or set apart by the Father in election, are loved by him. The Ethiopic version renders it quite otherwise, "to them that love God the Father"; which flows from the Father's love to them:

and preserved in Jesus Christ; those who are sanctified, or set apart by God the Father in election, are in Christ, for they are chosen in him; they have a place in his heart, and they are put into his hands, and are in him, and united to him as members to an head, and were represented by him in the covenant of grace; and being in him, they are preserved by him, and that before they are called, as well as after; wherefore this character is put before that of being called, though the Syriac version puts that in the first place: there is a secret preservation of them in Christ before calling, from condemnation and the second death; they were not preserved from falling in Adam, with the rest of mankind, nor from the corruption of human nature, nor from actual sins and transgressions; yet, notwithstanding these, were so preserved that the law could not execute the sentence of condemnation on them, nor sin damn them, nor Satan, who led them captive, hale them to prison; and after calling, they are preserved not from indwelling sin, nor from the temptations of Satan, nor from doubts and fears and unbelief, nor from slips and falls into sin; but from the tyranny and dominion of sin, from being devoured by Satan, and from a total and final falling away; they are preserved in the love of God, and of Christ; in the covenant of grace; in a state of justification and adoption; and in the paths of truth, faith, and holiness; and are preserved safe to the heavenly kingdom and glory: their other character follows,

and called; not merely externally by the ministry of the word, but internally by the Spirit and grace of God; so that this is to be understood of a special and effectual call, whereby souls are called out of darkness into light, and from bondage to liberty; and from a dependence on themselves to the grace and righteousness of Christ; and from society with the men of the world to fellowship with him; and to eternal glory, so as to have faith and hope concerning it,

(e) Yalkut Simeoni, par. 2. fol. 50. 2.”

Matthew Henry Commentary:

Christians are called out of the world, from the evil spirit and temper of it; called above the world, to higher and better things, to heaven, things unseen and eternal; called from sin to Christ, from vanity to seriousness, from uncleanness to holiness; and this according to the Divine purpose and grace. If sanctified and glorified, all the honour and glory must be ascribed to God, and to him alone. As it is God who begins the work of grace in the souls of men, so it is he who carries it on, and perfects it. Let us not trust in ourselves, nor in our stock of grace already received, but in him, and in him alone. The mercy of God is the spring and fountain of all the good we have or hope for; mercy, not only to the miserable, but to the guilty. Next to mercy is peace, which we have from the sense of having obtained mercy. From peace springs love; Christ's love to us, our love to him, and our brotherly love to one another. The apostle prays, not that Christians may be content with a little; but that their souls and societies may be full of these things. None are shut out from gospel offers and invitations, but those who obstinately and wickedly shut themselves out. But the application is to all believers, and only to such. It is to the weak as well as to the strong. Those who have received the doctrine of this common salvation, must contend for it, earnestly, not furiously. Lying for the truth is bad; scolding for it is not better. Those who have received the truth must contend for it, as the apostles did; by suffering with patience and courage for it, not by making others suffer if they will not embrace every notion we call faith, or important. We ought to contend earnestly for the faith, in opposition to those who would corrupt or deprave it; who creep in unawares; who glide in like serpents. And those are the worst of the ungodly, who take encouragement to sin boldly, because the grace of God has abounded, and still abounds so wonderfully, and who are hardened by the extent and fulness of gospel grace, the design of which is to deliver men from sin, and bring them unto God.”
