Kindness

Luke 6:35 - But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.

God is kind to the unthankful and the evil.

Roll that around on your mental tongue, shift it from side to side, 'tasting' with all the 'different' flavors...

Is it bitter? Salty? Sour? Sweet? Umami?

Say what? :-)

A savory taste...

Kind - G5543 - From G5530; employed, that is, (by implication) useful (in manner or morals).
  • G5530 - Middle voice of a primary verb (perhaps rather from G5495, to handle); to furnish what is needed; (give an oracle, “graze” [touch slightly], light upon, etc.), that is, (by implication) to employ or (by extension) to act towards one in a given manner.
Used 7 times -

Mat 11:30  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Rom 2:4  Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

Eph 4:32  And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

Unthankful - G884 - From G1 (as a negative particle) and a presumed derivative of G5483; thankless, that is, ungrateful.
  • G1 - Of Hebrew origin; the first letter of the alphabet: figuratively only (from its use as a numeral) the first. Often used (usually “an”, before a vowel) also in composition (as a contraction from G427) in the sense of privation; so in many words beginning with this letter; occasionally in the sense of union (as a contraction of G260): - Alpha.
  • G5483 - Middle voice from G5485; to grant as a favor, that is, gratuitously, in kindness, pardon or rescue.
Used twice...once in the verse above and:

2Ti 3:2  For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

Pondering on how extremely unthankful I have and can be...I tend to be very self absorbed...selfish...always expecting more, thinking I 'deserve' better.  How rotten a thought, feeling and position!

After all God has done for me...just saving me should be sufficient...yet once I have 'A', I want 'B' and so on...

This doesn't mitigate praying and seeking the Lord...but WHY am I asking?  For myself?  For His glory?

Evil - G4190 - From a derivative of G4192; hurtful, that is, evil (properly in effect or influence, and thus differing from G2556, which refers rather to essential character, as well as from G4550, which indicates degeneracy from original virtue); figuratively calamitous; also (passively) ill, that is, diseased; but especially (morally) culpable, that is, derelict, vicious, facinorous; neuter (singular) mischief, malice, or (plural) guilt; masculine (singular) the devil, or (plural) sinners.
  • G4192 - From the base of G3993; toil, that is, (by implication) anguish.
    • G3993 - From a primary “peno” (to toil for daily subsistence); starving, that is, indigent: - poor.

Have you ever looked at people around you and while 'well fed' seen them as the starving masses they truly are?  Those people we walk by in the stores, drive past on the streets, neighbors we really don't know...and don't share real 'food'?

Those who God, even though they are unthankful and evil, is kind...useful.
